The Vespa GS160 debuted in 1962 and replace the GS150 VS5 as Piaggio’s top of the line scooter. A sporty, performance oriented scooter capable of speeds close to 65 mph and featuring fantastic handling, the new 160 was a complete redesign from the ground up. Virtually all engine and chassis components were completely unique to this model. The mk1 version is possibly the most valuable Vespa of the 1960s. It was only built in 1962 and is the only model to feature the signature rear glovebox in the back of the frame. This feature was added because this was the first Vespa to carry a spare tire under the left side cowl. Later, the mk2 GS160 and other subsequent sport-model Vespas moved to a bulkier, albeit more practical storage compartment in the front, behind the legshield, but the mk1 is prized for it’s uniqueness and rarity.

The example seen here was restored by us to exact factory standards, down to the smallest detail.
